since 1892 [1956] - 50 years of a jingle…

i just saw BC clark’s TV spot promoting their 50th anniversary for their forever famous christmas jingle and i have to say, i was struck.  their obviously local produced but quality ad has just the right amount of everything:  awareness, sincerity, sentimental value and cheer.  not too over the top and definately doing their tradition justice.
most likely one of the only jingles i’ve ever avoided hating with a passion [probably due to its limited air play, being seasonal and all], it is definately one of the triggers that helps me to finally welcome the winter holidays.  because i place so much emphasis on the total environment and all its influences, several factors are necessary before i can really feel like its christmas.

warm weather just fucks it all up… which is why this snow storm hath made it official [that and the shipments showing up on my doorstep from amazon].   i’d have to mention the other typical indicators such as egg nogg, lights, pine and cinnamon.  and then there’s my birthday.  that always puts me into a head on collision with christmas.

either way, i’m finally in the flow of the holidays despite some other set backs and can’t wait to take my snow day tomorrow.
